Heavy fighting is reported in several towns across Sudan, with the Sudanese military (SAF) and RSF forces exchanging heavy fire.
El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, has again seen heavy fighting. According to the Sudanese military, at least nine civilians – including four children – were killed in RSF attacks on Sunday. The military said it killed six RSF fighters and destroyed three combat vehicles.
El-Fasher is the last town still held by government forces in Darfur, which the RSF has been trying to take over for more than a year.
In the east of the country, the coastal city of Port Sudan – the seat of the transitional government – has been the target of a series of drone strikes since May 4. The latest attacks have caused the burning of a major fuel depot, the international airport and key power stations. Civil defense forces said the fire had been brought under control, but there were still risks of damage.
The fighting also spread to the West Kordofan region, where Sudanese forces carried out airstrikes on the town of el-Khuwei – which RSF had captured last week. Footage posted on social media showed government forces claiming to have retaken the town.
